Sirens. Myths, emergencies and surfacing
Sirens. Myths, emergencies and surfacing.
In the summer of 2025, Vinicio Capossela brought to some of Italy’s most prestigious venues a show titled Sirene. Myths, Emergencies and Surfacing, running through the months of June, July, and August. These are the words the singer-songwriter used to describe the concerts:
Whether mythological beings or concrete acoustic devices, sirens are always a call, a signal of emergency. Both real and fantastical, they embody in their form a dual and ambiguous nature—shifting and elusive—creatures of the deep and of the light, of silence and of song, of Dionysian darkness and Apollonian beauty. They represent the very image of the semantic ambivalence of “emergency,” which means both danger and emergence—damnation and salvation, seduction and redemption, all at once.
For those who know how to listen, in these ominous times, the warning signals have multiplied. Amid wars, rearmament, oppression, and social injustices, the West seems to have lost its way, teetering on the brink of a sudden plunge into the abyss—accelerating toward its own decline, its own setting below the horizon.
Sirene sets out to listen to these calls, to decode them, to look them straight in the eye, and thus undertake a journey into the depths of today’s emergencies—a necessary descent in order to resurface into the light, to find breath and brightness again. It is a path driven by the firm hope that immersion will be followed by emergence, and by the belief that in a collective moment such as a concert, beauty and justice—reunited in song—can serve as a guide back to the stars.
Each month featured a different musical ensemble and repertoire.
In June, a quartet performed with Vincenzo Vasi (vibraphone, voice, theremin, toy instruments), Daniela Savoldi (cello), Alessandro "Asso" Stefana (guitar, banjo), and Raffaele Tiseo (violin, keyboards).
In July, the group expanded to include Michele Vignali (saxophones), Andrea Lamacchia (double bass), Zeno De Rossi (drums, percussion), along with Savoldi, Stefana, and Tiseo.
Finally, in August, a concert was conceived for two guitars, featuring Victor Herrero (guitars, vihuela, voice), Alessandro "Asso" Stefana (guitar, banjo), Zeno De Rossi (drums), Andrea Lamacchia (double bass), and Raffaele Tiseo (violin, keyboards).
